Nelson Cheung Kin-man was born in Hong Kong, and graduated from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada in 1978. He joined Rediffusion Television as a production assistant, and was promoted to director in 1981. He went to Singapore to work for its national broadcaster Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) as director in 1983, and returned to Hong Kong two years later. He joined TVB as a director in 1985, and was promoted to producer in 1989, responsible for such series as Where I Belong (1990). Cheung also worked for Wong Jing as executive director on The Big Score (1990). He directed his first feature Millionaire Cop in 1993, followed by The Prince of Portland Street (1993) and The Armed Policewoman (1995).
In recent years, Cheung has focused his career on television, producing numerous popular series at TVB, including Dicey Business (2006), Wars of In-Laws II (2008), D.I.E. (2008) and You’re Hired (2009). More recently, he was the producer of the TVB series Sergeant Tabloid (2013), A Change of Heart (2013) and Coffee Cat Mama (2013).
