Andrew Chen started working in animation in 1985. He joined director Tsui Hark's Cinefex Workshop in 1995, directing the highly regarded animation feature A Chinese Ghost Story-The Tsui Hark Animation (1997) while also serving as art director. The film won the Best Animated Feature prize at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards and was named Film of Merit by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society. In 1999, Chan entered Centro Digital Pictures in 1999 and in 2001, established Jin Mei Cartoon in Shenzhen, China, specializing in animation for commercials.
