Lucas Lowe worked at Shaw Brothers Studio in the 1980s, serving as continuity person and assistant director for the martial arts maestro Chang Cheh. Leaving Shaws, he worked as assistant director for New Wave director Alex Cheung. He made his directorial debut with the English-language film No Retreat, No Surrender 3 : Blood Brothers (1989), followed by two other English-language productions, The King of the Kickboxers (1990) and American Shaolin (1991). All three titles were produced by Seasonal Film and shot in the U.S. Lowe immigrated to Canada in 2000 and worked in film and television in North America.
